Could Plant-Based Flocculants Substitute the Conventional Synthetic Chemicals in the Sludge Dewatering Process?

چکیده
Due its high water content, sewage sludge dewatering is not just a simple operation; rather, it challenging process and costly management task. Its final handling usually preceded by several steps, among them the conditioning known as flocculation stage, which carried out using synthetic chemical reagents. Despite abilities of these additives to reduce volume extract bound waters, they are suspected cause serious environmental health threats. Their substitution natural efficient originating from plant extracts could thus be safe an eco-friendly alternative, overcoming ecosystem damages. It within this context that present review paper critically investigates efficacy feasibility plant-based flocculants, aiming enhance dispense with burdens. To do so, types conventional their drawbacks, impacts on human were addressed. In parallel, potential efficiency toward treatment was compiled, mechanistic paths performances thoroughly discussed. The challenges associated dewatered exploitation also highlighted motivate scientific communities further explore green resources for processing. suggested such Moringa, Cactus, Aloe, Okra used flocculants instead ones, would provide promising eco-sustainable approach might represent path towards environmentally friendly clean technology.

Dewatering Performance of Sewage Sludge during the Thermal Compression Process
Sewage sludge proves to be difficult to dewater due to its composition and biological nature, and it is unsuitable for disposal with high moisture content. In the present work, sewage sludge is dewatered by the thermal compression, which shows unique separation advantages of various materials, and the effects of applied temperature and pressure on the dewatering performance are investigated. Th...
متن کاملSludge Dewatering by Impulse Drying
An innovative and energy efficient sludge dewatering technology has been developed. The technology, impulse drying, involves briefly contacting the sludge under pressure with a heated surface. A unique feature of impulse drying is that the majority of moisture removal occurs as lipid water. A pilotand laboratory-scale demonstration was performed on low ash primary paper mill sludge. The pilot-s...

Sludge Dewatering and Mineralization in Sludge Treatment Reed Beds
Sludge Treatment Reed Beds (STRBs) are widely used in Northern Europe to dewater and mineralize surplus sludge from activated sludge systems used to treat urban domestic sewage. STRBs are low-technology, energy-efficient, and do not require addition of chemicals. They dewater and stabilize the sludge and produce a final product that can be safely used as a fertilizer for agricultural crops. Lon...
متن کاملImpact of sewage sludge conditioning and dewatering on the fate of nonylphenol in sludge-amended soils.
The fate of (14)C-labelled p353-nonylphenol (NP) in soils amended with differently treated sludges originating from the same precursor sludge was assessed. The effects of commonly applied conditioning and dewatering techniques were investigated. Nonylphenol was degraded considerably faster in soils amended with liquid sludge, while a significant portion of it remained intact and extractable by ...
